How Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen does it

Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen is there for everyone, through all of life’s care moments. An independent subsidiary of the City of Antwerp, it was founded in 2009 and today employs almost 4,000 people. Through home services, 46 service centres, almost 4,000 assisted-living homes, 17 residential care centres and youth care across more than 15 locations, it provides comfort and care in every district of Antwerp.

Innovation comes first

For the care organisation, the switch was no coincidence but a logical extension of its own values. “It’s about being enterprising, innovative and customer-focused. We carry that through for our employees as well,” Dirk explains.

That comes with a clear sustainability ambition. Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen is investing fully in electrifying its vehicle fleet and is firmly committed to going 100% electric. The same ambition runs through its mobility policy as a whole: “Sustainability is no longer a choice for us, but a definitive option.” That policy follows the STOP principle: first Walking (Stappen), then Cycling (Trappen), Public transport (Openbaar vervoer) and only as a last resort the private car (Personenwagen).

From doubt to a win-win

As a public-sector player, every euro counts. “For us, it clearly had to be a win-win, because otherwise you’re better off doing it yourself,” says Dirk. Starting from a TCO (total cost of ownership) calculation, the care organisation aligned the mobility budget with the cost of the salary cars, with extra focus on bicycles and electrification.

And the results? It’s not only the younger generation getting on board. “We’re also seeing more experienced managers make the shift. Within our own management team, almost half have switched to the mobility budget.

Why Olympus Mobility?

With a public tender as the starting point, Zorgbedrijf Antwerpen compared several partners. It was the trust in, and the simplicity of, the Olympus mobility platform that tipped the balance. “Olympus Mobility is a very strong player. I notice it too when I buy a De Lijn ticket through the KBC app — behind the scenes, that’s Olympus Mobility’s software as well.”

The platform proves itself day after day: “It’s a very intuitive app and 100% self-service.” The result: “The experience is so simple and user-friendly. We get virtually no questions coming in to HR.

The real win: time for people

“It’s a complete unburdening, but at the same time a saving as well,” Dirk says. The greatest added value, though, isn’t the saving in itself. “The time that frees up when you’re no longer tied up in administration can flow back to our most important asset. That’s our employees and the talented people who work with us.”
